DC Kathua flags off awareness drive on World TB Day 89 Panchayats TB-free; focus on early detection and free treatment

KATHUA, MARCH 24: To commemorate World Tuberculosis Day, the Health Department today organized an awareness programme at District TB Hospital Kathua under the National TB Elimination Programme.

Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion.

Among others present were Chief Medical Officer Kathua, Dr Vijay Raina, District Tuberculosis Officer Kathua, Dr Radha Krishan, Block Medical Officer Parole, Principal ANMT School, District Immunization Officer, Medical Officers and paramedical staff.

The Deputy Commissioner inspected various sections of the TB Hospital and reviewed the facilities being provided to patients.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for community cooperation in supporting TB patients. He stated that it is the collective responsibility of society to extend care and support to those affected. He further informed that treatment for TB patients is completely free and medicines are being provided at their doorsteps under the programme.

The DC also dedicated the recently upgraded X-Ray facility in the hospital.

Earlier, the District Tuberculosis Officer informed that 89 Panchayats in the district have been declared TB-free, which has been made possible due to the concerted efforts of doctors, paramedics and Ni-kshay Mitras. He added that the department is actively spreading awareness and encouraging people to come forward for timely diagnosis in case of any symptoms related to Tuberculosis.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner flagged off an awareness van to intensify outreach activities across the district.

The DC also administered the TB Mukt pledge to all present, highlighting commitment towards a TB-free district through awareness, early detection and community support.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner distributed mementos and certificates of appreciation among the MLHPs for their significant contribution towards achieving TB-free Panchayats.
