
KATHUA, MARCH 18: One day Skill Development and Awareness Campaign under the Sub Mission on Agroforestry (SMAF), a Centrally Sponsored Scheme was organized today at newly established Agroforestry Nursery at Burmal in Kathua.
The programme aimed to generate awareness among farmers and stakeholders on the importance, benefits and scientific practices of agroforestry for sustainable agriculture and enhanced income generation. Participants were sensitized on integrating trees with crops and livestock to improve soil health, biodiversity and climate resilience.
Former Additional Mission Director (HADP) Satish Sharma attended as the Resource Person and shared valuable insights on the scope and future potential of agroforestry in the region. He emphasized the adoption of modern agroforestry practices for long-term sustainability and economic benefits to farmers.
Joint Director Agriculture (SLUB/Farms) Jammu Aman Jyoti Sharma highlighted the role of departmental initiatives in promoting agroforestry and encouraged farmers to avail benefits under various government schemes. Assistant Agrostologist Jammu N. P. Singh and Agriculture Extension Officer Hiranagar also addressed the participants and provided technical guidance on nursery management and plantation techniques.
Nursery Incharge Manohar Sharma coordinated the programme and briefed the participants about the functioning and objectives of the newly established agroforestry nursery at Burmal.
The programme witnessed active participation of farmers and field functionaries, who appreciated the initiative and expressed keen interest in adopting agroforestry practices.
