
SRINAGAR, MARCH 07: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg today chaired a meeting of the Divisional Level Plastic Waste Management Cell (PWMC) in his office chamber, to discuss measures for elimination of Single Use Plastic (SUP) and to address the issue of plastic pollution in the Union Territory.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner SMC, Director General Rural Sanitation, Director Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Kashmir, Director Rural Development Department Kashmir and other concerned officers.
During the meeting, Director ULB Kashmir briefed the Divisional Commissioner about the implementation of Plastic Waste Management Rules, formation of Special Task Force, establishment of Plastic Management Cell, besides action taken in terms of seizure of Single Use Plastic and imposition of fines on violators.
The Divisional Commissioner directed all stakeholder departments to ensure strict enforcement of the ban on Single Use Plastic across the division. He also stressed that extensive awareness campaigns should be carried out to sensitise the public about the harmful effects of SUP on the environment.
Meanwhile, Director General Rural Sanitation informed the meeting that Collection and Segregation Centres have been established under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban to strengthen plastic waste management and ensure proper disposal and segregation of waste.
