GUMC Ganderbal celebrates 10th World Unani Day

GANDERBAL, FEB 12: Government Unani Medical College (GUMC) Ganderbal marked the 10th World Unani Day today, commemorating the birthday of the renowned scholar Hakim Ajmal Khan, considered the founder of Scientific research in Unani Medicine.

In a function held at the college campus, Principal Prof. Dr Iffat Hassan highlighted Hakim Ajmal Khan’s immense contributions to Unani Medicine and emphasized the importance of integrating traditional and modern medicine for better healthcare outcomes. She appreciated the efforts of students and staff in making the institution a renowned one.

The event featured a range of academic activities, including poster presentations, a medical quiz, and debate competitions, focusing on Unani’s role in managing lifestyle disorders.

Notably, the college has been granted permission by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicines (NCISM), Ministry of AYUSH, to start the 6th batch of BUMS with an intake capacity of 60 students. Presently, 259 students are pursuing BUMS degree at the college.

Appreciation certificates were awarded to students and staff members during the valedictory session, recognizing their outstanding performance and contributions.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment to promoting excellence in Unani Medicine.
