SHOPIAN, JANUARY 31: A month-long Road Safety awareness campaign, organised by Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Shopian, concluded today with a valedictory programme here at Rising Genius School, Gagren.
The campaign witnessed a series of awareness activities including seminars, rallies, interactive sessions and outreach programmes aimed at sensitizing drivers, pedestrians, students and the general public about traffic rules and road discipline.
Speaking on the occasion, the authorities highlighted that road safety is a collective responsibility and stressed the need for strict adherence to traffic regulations, use of helmets and seat belts, avoidance of over-speeding and zero tolerance towards drunken driving.
Emphasis was also laid on protecting vulnerable road users and ensuring safety of school children and pedestrians.
Officials from the transport department, Police, education department, health sector, civil society members and volunteers actively participated in the month-long initiative, making it a people-centric movement.
The programme concluded with a pledge to continue sustained efforts beyond the Road Safety month to reduce road accidents and save precious lives through awareness, enforcement and community participation.
