DLSA Srinagar organizes awareness programme under “Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat ” Campaign

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 20: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar organized an awareness program on the prevention of child marriage at Lal Bazaar, Srinagar under the aegis of J&K Legal Services Authority as a part of the nationwide 100-day intensive awareness campaign “Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat”.

The campaign has been launched by the Ministry of Women & Child Development with the objective of strengthening legal awareness, outreach and rapid prevention at the grassroot level in line with the ASHA (Awareness, Support, Help & Action) Framework.

The program was conducted with the objective of sensitizing the community about the social, legal and health consequences of child marriage and to promote the rights and welfare of children.

During the awareness session, the PLVs educated the participants about the prohibition of Child Marriage Act-2006, highlighting the legal age of marriage, the punishment for offenders and the role of citizens in reporting incidents of child marriage.

Emphasis was laid on the adverse impact of early marriage on education, health and overall development of children, particularly girls. The PLVs also informed the participants about the free Legal Aid Services available through DLSA Srinagar and encouraged community members to seek legal assistance in cases involving child marriage or related issues.

The programme witnessed active participation of local residents, parents and community elders.

DLSA Srinagar reiterated its commitment to crating awareness and working towards a child marriage free society (Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat) through continuous legal literacy and community engagement initiatives.
