A high‑level delegation from the Jammu‑Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party met Union Health Minister J P Nadda in New Delhi today

The team briefed him on the controversy surrounding MBBS seat allocations at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) in Kakryal, where 42 of the 50 seats were reportedly given to Muslim students—a move that sparked protests across the Jammu region, especially among Hindu groups who argue that the shrine‑board‑funded institution should prioritize the sentiments of its Hindu devotees.

Led by J&K BJP president Sat Sharma, the delegation included MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma and several MLAs. Nadda reportedly took the matter “very seriously” and has asked the Ministry of Law and Justice for legal advice, while also seeking a constitutional assessment of the issue. He hinted that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha may be summoned to Delhi to present the shrine board’s viewpoint.

The delegation urged a swift resolution to the dispute, emphasizing that the controversy is “extremely sensitive” and must be examined from legal, constitutional and religious angles.
