On the 79th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered his 12th consecutive address from the Red Fort, reiterating his pledge to make India a developed nation by 2047. In a speech marked by bold announcements, the Prime Minister unveiled initiatives aimed at boosting self-reliance, technological advancement, and economic growth.
Mission Sudarshan Chakra
PM Modi announced the launch of ‘Mission Sudarshan Chakra’, inspired by Lord Krishna’s legendary weapon. The mission aims to develop an indigenous air defence system on the lines of Israel’s Iron Dome, designed to protect critical infrastructure and civilian areas from terrorist attacks. The fully homegrown research, development, and production process is targeted for completion by 2035.
Indigenous Semiconductor Chip by 2025-End
The Prime Minister declared that India’s first indigenous semiconductor chip will hit the market by the end of 2025. He noted that while the country had fallen behind in this sector decades ago, this breakthrough would be a game-changer for the electronics, automotive, and defence industries.
Next-Generation GST Reforms
Calling it a “double Diwali gift,” PM Modi announced the next phase of GST reforms, promising steep tax cuts on essential goods to ease the financial burden on citizens. He described the move as a “need of the hour.”
₹1 Lakh Crore Employment Scheme
The Prime Minister also launched the PM Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana, a ₹1 lakh crore employment initiative aimed at creating 3.5 crore jobs. Under the scheme, first-time employees in the private sector will receive ₹15,000 from the government, while employers hiring more workers will also be offered financial incentives.
Nuclear Energy Expansion
Outlining the country’s energy ambitions, PM Modi announced that India will increase its nuclear energy capacity tenfold by 2047. Construction has already begun on 10 new reactors. He also highlighted a 30-fold growth in solar energy over the past 11 years and pledged continued investments in hydropower, hydrogen energy, and dam infrastructure.
