In connection with the alleged encounter involving a drug peddler in Jammu, authorities have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident. Two police personnel have been suspended pending investigation. The move comes amid growing concerns over the circumstances surrounding the encounter, with officials stating that a thorough and impartial probe will be conducted to ascertain the facts. An encounter took place between drug smugglers and police on Thursday evening at Mandal (Sure-Chakk village) under Satwari police station area of the city. The drug smugglers first pelted stones at the police car and later opened fire, due to which the car lost balance and fell into a field on the roadside.
In police retaliatory action, one smuggler was killed while his two associates escaped in the dark. A search is on for them.
