Five Dead, 17 Injured as Tempo Traveller Falls Into Gorge in Doda

A tragic road accident occurred on Tuesday morning in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of five people and injuries to 17 others. The incident took place around 9 AM on the Doda-Bharath road near the Ponda area when a Tempo Traveller, bearing registration number JK06-4847, veered off a sharp turn and plunged into a deep gorge.

According to officials, the vehicle was carrying several passengers when the driver reportedly lost control at a blind curve, leading to the fatal plunge. The vehicle was completely mangled in the fall.

The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Ashraf (35), Mangta Wani (51), Atta Mohammad (33), Talib Hussain (35), and Rafeeqa Begum (60). All five were declared dead at the Government Medical College Hospital in Doda.

Rescue teams, along with local residents who arrived at the scene immediately after the crash, managed to transport the injured to nearby hospitals. Among the injured, a five-year-old girl named Uzma Jan, who is critically wounded, has been referred to Jammu for specialized treatment.
