Kavinder Gupta Appointed as New Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh

On the recommendation of the central government, President Draupadi Murmu has appointed Jammu and Kashmir BJP veteran leader Kavinder Gupta as the new LG (Deputy Governor) of Ladakh. He will replace Brigadier (Dr.) BD Mishra (Retired). Gupta has also been the Deputy CM in the Mehbooba Mufti government in the past. President Draupadi Murmu has appointed Kavinder Gupta as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh on the recommendation of the central government. Kavinder Gupta is the last Deputy CM of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Born on 2 December 1959, Kavinder Gupta came to BJP from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He was in jail for 13 months during the Emergency. He was then the head of the Punjab unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Kavinder Gupta has also held many positions in the BJP organization. He has also been the Mayor of Jammu and Kashmir in the past and then the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. Kavinder Gupta is one of the big and veteran leaders of Jammu and Kashmir BJP. He was also the head of Jammu and Kashmir BJP Yuva Morcha from 1993 to 1998. Three consecutive terms Mayor

Kavinder Gupta was elected mayor of Jammu city three consecutive times from 2005 to 2010. In the 2014 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, he contested as a member of the BJP. He was then elected as an assembly member from the Gandhinagar constituency. He then defeated Raman Bhalla of the Congress. On 19 March 2015, Gupta was elected Speaker of the Assembly. He also became the first BJP leader to be appointed Speaker. On 30 April 2018, Gupta was appointed Deputy Chief Minister of the state of Jammu and Kashmir as part of a cabinet reshuffle. He replaced Nirmal Kumar Singh. After the BJP exited the alliance with the PDP on 19 June 2018, Gupta resigned from the post of Deputy Chief Minister 51 days after taking oath. 65-year-old Kavinder Gupta is originally from Jammu. He has two daughters and a son. Kavinder Gupta is one of those BJP leaders who have been very loyal. When assembly elections were held after the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, Kavinder Gupta did not contest the elections. He had put in all his efforts for the victory of the party. Now, on the recommendation of the central government, President Draupadi Murmu has appointed him as the Lieutenant Governor. Kavinder Gupta joined the Sangh at the age of 13. After this, he became the 12th speaker and the last deputy CM of Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir is not a full state yet.
