Amarnath Yatra Security: Responsibility of Kashmir Locals’ , Says Mehbooba Mufti

PDP Chief and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has made a significant statement regarding the Amarnath Yatra, emphasizing that the security of pilgrims is the responsibility of the people of Kashmir. Mufti made these remarks during a meeting with stakeholders and party workers in Pahalgam, a tourist destination in Anantnag district of South Kashmir.

Ensuring Pilgrim Safety

Mufti stressed that the safety of pilgrims is a collective responsibility, urging citizens to take ownership of ensuring their security. “The security of pilgrims is your responsibility. Every citizen has a role to play in safeguarding the yatra and its participants,” she said.

Restoring Tourism

The PDP chief highlighted the importance of restoring tourism in the region, which has been severely impacted by recent events. She appealed to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, and the elected government to reopen parks and tourist spots in Pahalgam, such as Chandanwari, Aru, and Betaab Valley. This, she said, would help hotel owners, pony wallahs, and taxi drivers earn their livelihood.

Amarnath Yatra: A Tradition of Hospitality

Mufti emphasized the long-standing tradition of hospitality extended to Amarnath pilgrims by the people of Kashmir, particularly in Pahalgam. “We want the Amarnath pilgrims to come and be welcomed with the same spirit and sincerity that Kashmiris have always shown,” she said. “We will ensure their safety and well-being, and they will return home safely and healthily.”

Call for Support

The PDP chief’s appeal comes amid concerns about the impact of recent events on the local economy and tourism industry. Many stakeholders, including hotel owners, shopkeepers, and taxi drivers, have been affected, and Mufti has urged the authorities to take steps to support them.
