The Education Department has once again decided to give six months relaxation in the age of children for admission in first class. The Education Department has now issued an order to admit children turning six years old on 30 September in the Summer Zone of Jammu Division in the academic session 2025-26.
Earlier, an order was issued to admit only children who complete six years on 31 March in the first class. Under the National Education Policy 2020, it was decided to admit only children of six years of age or above in the first class. Parents were opposing this order ever since it was implemented in Jammu and Kashmir.
In view of this protest, relaxation in admission of children was given twice in the academic session 2023-24 and 2024-25. This time the Education Department had decided not to admit children below six years of age in the first class.
This time also many parents opposed it. They said that even before the new education policy was implemented, they had started sending their children to nursery, pre-nursery and Anganwadi classes. Now their children are ready to go to the first class, but schools are refusing to admit them due to their young age.
