Jammu: In a renewed effort to tackle drug trafficking, police conducted an early morning raid in Balole Khad, Gujjar Basti, under the jurisdiction of Bari Brahmana in District Samba. The operation, led by SDPO Bari Brahmana and SHO, was aimed at identifying and apprehending individuals involved in the local drug network and assailants responsible for attacking a police party in the same area few days back.
The police party thoroughly searched several Gujjar Kullas in the area, which has recently gained notoriety as a hotspot for narcotics activity. The action follows a previous violent encounter in the same locality, where suspected drug peddlers attacked a police party attempting to make arrests. That incident had left SHO Pushpinder Singh, Sub-Inspector Arar Mirza, and a police head constable injured.
According to official sources, the raid was carried out based on actionable intelligence suggesting the continued presence of individuals connected to drug trafficking. Although the police have not disclosed the number of arrests or seizures made during today’s operation, they have confirmed that the search was part of an intensified drive against drug peddling in the region.
Local residents have expressed concern over the growing menace of drugs in the area, especially among the youth. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to root out the drug problem and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The Samba police have stepped up surveillance and community outreach in vulnerable areas, and more such targeted operations are expected in the coming days.
