Jammu: Petrol and diesel prices are going to increase in Jammu and Kashmir from April 1. The state government has decided to impose a cess of Rs 2 per liter on petrol and Rs 1 per liter on diesel. This move has been criticized by various political parties and the Chamber of Commerce. They say that this will put an additional burden on the common man.
Petrol-Diesel Rate in Jammu Kashmir: Petrol and diesel prices will increase in Jammu and Kashmir from April 1. The state government has decided to impose a cess of Rs 2 per liter on petrol and Rs 1 per liter on diesel. Various political parties including People’s Conference, PDP and BJP have criticized this move of the government.
They said that this will put an additional burden on the common man. At the same time, the Chamber has urged the government to reconsider its decision. The Finance Department of the state has issued a notification to impose tax on petroleum products and reduce the exemption given by the government on them earlier. This notification will come into effect from April 1.
There are 535 filling stations in the state. Let us tell you that about 55 thousand kilolitres of petrol and 75 thousand kilolitres of diesel are consumed every month in the state. There are 535 filling stations of diesel and petrol in the entire state.
In the current budget session, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had announced an increase in the pension given to the concerned beneficiaries under the social welfare schemes in Jammu and Kashmir, free bus service for women, 200 units of free electricity and ration for Antyodaya beneficiaries.
On the other hand, citing the limited resources of the state, he also announced to impose a cess of one rupee per litre on diesel and two rupees per litre on petrol to increase the income.
