Rapid raids in the valley, many terror groups on target

Kashmir: Jammu and Kashmir Police has raided several places in the Kashmir Valley, including the residences of former Hurriyat chief Abdul Ghani Bhat, as part of the investigation into the activities of banned organizations.

In this regard, officials said on Wednesday that searches were conducted for two days at several places in the Kashmir Valley, including Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag.

Police said that these include cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) related to banned organizations, including Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (Bhat Group), Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (Masrat Alam Group) and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (Shabbir Shah Group).

Raids were conducted at two places

Officials said that raids were conducted at two residences of Bhat, one in Baramulla and the other in Wazir Bagh, Srinagar. Bhat is the head of the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (Bhat Group), a constituent of the Hurriyat Conference. He said that raids were also conducted at the house of Shabbir Ahmed Shah, head of the Democratic Freedom Party.

According to the official statement, other leaders raided include Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chief Masrat Alam Bhat, Ghulam Nabi Sumbiji, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat (alias Gugga), Ghulam Nabi Wage, Feroz Ahmad Khan and Mohammad Nazir Khan, Hakeem Abdul Rashid and Javed Ahmad Munshi (alias Bilpapa). Officials said the raids were conducted to further probe into various cases in connection with suspected members of these banned organisations.
