Jammu, December 19: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta, strongly criticized Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for allegedly assaulting BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput during a protest inside the Parliament premises. The clash arose over Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
In a press statement issued today, Kavinder accused the Congress of engaging in “cheap politics” and spreading misleading narratives about Home Minister Amit Shah’s statements. He highlighted the Congress’s historical mistreatment of Dr. Ambedkar, saying, “Congress systematically insulted and slandered Babasaheb Ambedkar during his lifetime and for decades after.” He contrasted this with the BJP-led NDA government’s efforts under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honor Ambedkar’s legacy and preserve his contributions.
“Home Minister Amit Shah presented undeniable facts and evidence in Parliament regarding the BJP’s respect for Dr. Ambedkar. The Congress is indulging in petty politics to divert attention from these truths,” he added.
The senior BJP leader raised pointed questions about Congress’s record, asking, “Why did Pandit Nehru campaign against Dr. Ambedkar and ensure his defeat? Why did Congress delay awarding Dr. Ambedkar the Bharat Ratna for over 40 years?” He accused the Congress of continuing to mislead the public with false narratives and called on the party to answer these questions.
“The people of India are well-informed and will not fall for the Congress’s lies. They know who truly respects the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar,” he added.
Kavinder urged all political parties to uphold the dignity of Parliament and engage in constructive debate. “Resorting to physical altercations or spreading misinformation will only erode public trust. Let us focus on serving the nation with integrity and truth,” he said, underscoring the importance of maintaining decorum in democratic institutions and honoring the legacy of national icons like Dr. Ambedkar through actions rather than rhetoric.
