A terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Sopore, Baramulla district of North Kashmir on Saturday evening. One jawan was injured in the operation. The identity of the slain terrorist has not been ascertained yet. The entire North Kashmir has been put on high alert following the incident. A search operation has been launched in the area.
Police said that security forces had received information about the movement of terrorists in the Watargam area of Sopore. A naka was set up in the area, and security forces were exercising caution when the terrorists opened fire. In the ensuing encounter, one terrorist was killed. A pistol, bullets, and two hand grenades were recovered from the slain terrorist. Police said that efforts are being made to identify the terrorist’s organization. The injured jawan is stable.
The operation was carried out by Sopore police, 32 Rashtriya Rifles, and CRPF. Police sources said that security forces were exercising caution at the naka following information about the movement of terrorists. Two terrorists on a motorcycle arrived at the spot and opened fire when asked to stop. One terrorist was killed in the retaliatory action.
It is worth noting that elections have begun in Jammu and Kashmir, and security has been heightened across the Valley due to the possibility of disturbances. The first phase of the election is scheduled for September 18.”
