Jammu. National Conference President Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have suffered nothing but pain and hardship in the last ten years. Terming the arbitrary demarcation of assembly seats and parliamentary constituencies as disastrous, he said that its aim is to divide the population on religious and regional basis.

Dr. Farooq was addressing a one-day representative conference in Doda on Tuesday. He said that the conference was held to strengthen the party at the grassroots level and to formulate strategies to meet the needs of the people. The conscious people of Jammu and Kashmir need to unite to face adverse circumstances. He said that in the last ten years, people have become insecure due to the schemes made to weaken the interests of Jammu and Kashmir. Today is the time for every citizen to fulfill his responsibility.
The National Conference chief slammed the government over lack of land, job opportunities and prevalence of mental health issues among the highly educated youth in the region. He said the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A had further aggravated the challenges faced by the people, leading to widespread discontent among the educated youth. He asked the office-bearers to stand in solidarity with determination in the face of adversity.
