IIMC Hosts Orientation Program for New Batch of Students

Jammu 12th Aug 2024:  The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Jammu, hosted an orientation program for the 2024-25 batch on Monday. The program was divided into two sessions.In the first session, students interacted with newly inducted faculty and staff of IIMC. Dr. Dilip Kumar, Regional Director of IIMC, and Vivek Pathak (IIS), OSD (Admin) and Integrated Financial Advisor, IIMC Jammu, facilitated the introduction of all faculty and staff. Students from the Digital Media, English Journalism, and Hindi Journalism courses introduced themselves and discussed why they chose IIMC for their journalism studies. This session was moderated by Vishv and Dr. Ravia Gupta, Assistant Professor, respectively.

In the second session, Mr. Ghulam Abbas, Director, CBC, J&K and Ladakh; Dr. Brijesh Kumar Singh, Editor, Amar Ujala; Ms. Ayushi Puri, Deputy Director, CBC, J&K and Ladakh; and Mr. Vivek Pathak, Assistant Editor (News), Doordarshan, Jammu, interacted with students. During the interactions, Mr. Ghulam Abbas emphasized the crucial role of journalists in shaping the nation and discussed how the profession is fundamentally a form of social service. He also spoke about the functions and current status of the Press Information Bureau (PIB), noting that PIB officers act as a bridge between the public and the government, and that PIB publishes press releases related to all ministries of the Government of India.

Dr. Brijesh Kumar Singh shared his philosophy of success, asserting that hard work is the only formula for achievement. He highlighted the dedication and effort required to excel in the media field and encouraged students to develop a habit of extensive reading. He noted that media professionals often work around the clock, handling news and shaping it continuously. Dr. Singh also discussed the evolving media landscape in Jammu and Kashmir.

Ms. Ayushi Puri discussed the working style of the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), explaining that it operates comprehensively with the Government of India, focusing on advertising, AR/VR, and development issues. Vivek Pathak elaborated on the operations of Prasar Bharati, Doordarshan, and All India Radio, detailing the various divisions of Doordarshan. Dr. Dilip Kumar, Regional Director of IIMC, talked about Indian communication methods and stressed the importance of understanding the media wings of the Government of India and their operations. Dr. Vinit Utpal, Assistant Professor, concluded the program with a vote of thanks
