National Conference chief and former CM Farooq Abdullah on Thursday said that Jammu and Kashmir stayed with India because Mahatma Gandhi said it is a country for all and has never sought independence.
“You have to realise that we are a Muslim-majority state in a Hindu-majority India. What drew us to India? The only thing that brought us here was (Mahatma) Gandhi and his utterances that this nation is for all irrespective of what language you speak, what culture you have. We are one nation,” said the former chief minister.
