SRINAGAR 8th Mar : Asserting that the right of people to choose their representatives must be restored, Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari on Wednesday demanded that assembly elections be held in Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest.
“And once we are elected to the power, we will reverse all the decisions taken by the current government which are not in the public welfare,” Bukhari told reporters at the third foundation day celebrations of the party, here.
Reiterating his demand for delaying the imposition of property tax, Bukhari said that the municipalities would need the funds for their proper functioning, even as he called for action against the encroachers of large track land while sparing the poor class.
“In a democracy, people have the right to elect their own government. The time has come that the people of Jammu and Kashmir be given this right,” said Bukhari, adding that his party was ready for the election.
“We are ready to fight election in all constituencies, barring 4-5 constituencies,” he said.
“If Apni Party is voted to power, decisions like imposition of property tax, would be reversed. We are not against property tax as municipalities need money to carry out developmental activities, but the timing is not right. The administration must delay the decision for a couple of years,” he said.
