TRAIN PUBLIC TRANSPORT STAKEHOLDERS

TRAIN PUBLIC TRANSPORT STAKEHOLDERS

It is quite unfortunate that despite the concerted efforts by the government and strictness against traffic defaulters the road mishaps in the Union Territory of J&K have continued to haunt the people with many residents losing their precious lives to reckless driving and negligence by the public transport stakeholders. In this context, the day before yesterday was another bad day because a boy in his early teens along with another person lost their live and scores of others got injured when a minibus carrying pilgrims to Shiv Khori shrine of Lord Shiva plunged into a gorge near Taryath in Ransu. Reportedly, the accident took place after the driver of the minibus (JK11A-0215) lost control on wheels while negotiating a curve and the vehicle skidded off the road rolling down over 50 feet into a gorge. It has been observed that most of road accidents which occur in the UT involved commercial vehicles especially the public transport ones projecting the need to provide specialized training to the stakeholders especially the driver fraternity which are mainly responsible for the things going haywire on roads. The LG Manoj Sinha’s administration has been proactive in redressal of issues which the people of J&K are confronting therefore it is imperative for the local dispensation to take adequate measures to ensure that people commuting on roads of the UT remain safe and sound, and the rate of accidents on roads should be reduced to bare minimum with no one losing his or her life. There has been a dismal track record of commercial vehicle drivers as rash driving has become a near norm for these stakeholders having the responsibility for ferrying the passengers and goods to their destinations safely. Every time a fatal road mishap takes place in the UT, lots of questions come into the mind that what our authorities are doing and how they can allow reckless driving to take away lives of people? Like earlier instances, one thing is sure that no one will be held accountable and things will return to normal course once the ill-fated bus will be removed from the accident site as if nothing has happened. This culture of the UT has lead to such a precarious situation on roads and therefore LG’s administration being the concerned one should change the path and set up a norm to provide required training to all the stakeholders so that no life gets perished while moving on roads as this is vital for the safety of one and all.
