Four people, including three members of a family, died in a tragic road accident near Samroli in Chinaini area of Udhampur district this morning. The dead included a top Islamic scholar, his son and daughter-in-law. Police said that the road accident happened near Prem Mandir in Chinaini. All four people were traveling in a car when the uncontrolled car went straight into a gorge near Chinaini Prem Mandir.
Police said that when the Maruti car JK-19 1449 coming from Gul Sangaldan towards Udhampur reached near Prem Mandir Chinani, the driver lost control over the vehicle and the car went straight into the ditch. In this accident, two people died on the spot while two others were injured. Immediately after the accident, the police and the local people got involved in the rescue work. He brought all the people in the car to the main road. On investigation, it was found that two people had died on the spot. When two other injured were being taken to the hospital, they too succumbed to their injuries on the way.
The dead include Abdul Hameed (32), the chief cleric of Jamia Masjid Sangaldan, his wife Hazira Begum and his father Mohammad Jamaluddin (65). He was a top Islamic scholar. The fourth minor youth who died in the accident has been identified as Adil Ahmed s/o Gulzar Ahmed (16). All of them had left for Udhampur.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban has also expressed his deep sorrow over this road accident. Giving information about this road accident on his Twitter handle, he wrote that “In the road accident in Sarmoli, the Imam of Jamia Masjid Sangaldan, Mufti Abdul Hameed Sahab, and his father Mufti Jamal Deen Sahab died on the spot.
