National Conference President and former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah kept alive the hope of an alliance with other parties in the possible assembly elections in the state next year. He said the appointment of NC in-charges of the assembly constituency in Kashmir does not mean breaking the alliance. However, the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) will not end. Farooq made it clear that party’s vice-president Omar Abdullah will not contest elections until statehood is granted. He said that till elections are not held here, people will say strange things.
Farooq Abdullah said that We keep answering everything that is not right. It’s time for the election. Whether there will be an alliance or not, it will be decided only when the elections are announced here. At that time talks will be held with other parties, this issue will also be discussed in PAGD. PAGD will continue till it achieves its objective.
He said that NC’s list of in-charges of assembly does not mean that we contest elections alone or that PAGD has ended or we have walked out of it. He said that he will not contest the elections until Jammu and Kashmir gets statehood and the situation has been clarified several times in the past also.
