There has been an increase in the cases related to criminal activities in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in 2021 as compared to the previous years. Criminal cases registered a growth of 24.6 percent in the year 2021. However, there has been some reduction in violent crimes. These figures have come out in the report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
In the year 2021, 31,675 criminal cases were registered in Jammu and Kashmir, out of which 27,447 cases were registered under IPC and 4,228 cases under local law. Earlier in the year 2019, 25,408 cases were registered in various police stations of the state. Of these, 22,404 cases were registered under IPC and 3,004 under special and local laws. In the year 2020, 28,911 cases were registered during the corona epidemic. Of these, 25,233 cases were registered under IPC, while 3,678 cases were registered under local law.
3072 violent crimes registered in 2021
The NCRB report said that there has been a marginal decline in the incidents of violent crime. In the year 2019, 3,100 violent criminal cases, including terrorist incidents, were registered in various police stations of the state. In the year 2021, 3,072 cases were registered, registering a decrease in these. In the year 2020, 2,821 cases were registered. Of these, charge sheets have been filed in 67.2 percent of the cases.
136 murders took place in the year 2021
According to the report, there were 136 murders in the year 2021, in which 30 people died in terrorist incidents. Also two political murders and one honor killing case were registered. Apart from this, there were 10 murders due to love affair and three due to illicit relations. Whereas, 149 murders were registered in the year 2020 and 119 in the year 2019. Chargesheet has been presented in 79.9 percent of murder cases.
315 rape cases came to the fore
In 2021, 16 incidents of infanticide, three feticide and dowry death were reported in Jammu and Kashmir. In the same year, 1,346 people died in various road accidents across the state. While 315 cases of rape, 1041 kidnapping, 751 inciting riots and 131 cases of arson were registered.
Under the pending kidnapping cases, 1051 people have been recovered till the year 2021, while information about 1,882 abducted people is not available. The bodies of two of those recovered were recovered while 811 women were among the others recovered.
300 cases of sedition registered
In the year 2019, 299 cases related to child crime were registered. In the year 2020, 171 cases were registered. Which increased to 323 in the year 2021. Last year, 289 cases were registered under UAPA, two under Office Secrets Act and 300 cases of sedition. Of the 247 cases related to arms, 29 cases were registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 35 under the Financial Act and 718 under the Excise Act. 1681 cases of drug trafficking were registered.
