DWINDLING PAK POLITY
The situation emerging after the boat of ousted Pakistan Premier Imran Khan stuck in the rough waters as the rogue nation’s police has lodged an FIR against former cricketer turned politician following his speech targeting the country’s institutions including the police and the judiciary, is really critical because it is likely that he might land in jail in coming days. One cannot rule out the political vendetta behind the scenes as Pakistan’s politics has a bad track record with former prime ministers facing the torturous times after leaving the office. The Imran’s case could be one among the same showing to the rest of the world that nothing has been changed in Pakistan as institutions are being misused badly and voice of people is muzzled as it used be decades ago. It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan police has registered an FIR against Imran Khan under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) for allegedly threatening an additional sessions judge and senior officers of the Islamabad Police. The Pakistani media is claiming that Imran could also be put under house arrest, and law enforcement agencies are said to be waiting for instructions from higher-ups. The interior ministry has reportedly sought written permission from the Prime Minister’s Office for the arrest of the PTI chief. The situation currently seems to be grim exposing bad politics of the western neighbour of India as there is Jungle Raaj there with people running the government having no regard for law of the land as things are being twisted and turned as per advantage of those sitting at helm and the common man’s plight is going unheard as those running the government have their own plans to take undue benefit from the current political advantage for they being in power. The extreme level of authoritarian rule can be well gauged by the fact that Pakistan’s media watchdog has already slapped a ban on broadcast of Khan’s live speeches on TV channels after his contentious speech at a rally in Islamabad. Imran threatened to file cases against top police officials, a woman magistrate, Election Commission of Pakistan and political opponents over the treatment meted out to his arrested aide Shahbaz Gill, which is seen as the root cause of this tension in recent times.
