FORTIFYING LAC, LOC

FORTIFYING LAC, LOC

It is a hard fact that managing border security especially with Pakistan and China frontiers has always remained a crucial issue with these neighbours creating problems for India from time to time. As the technology has reached the next level, the border issues have also become more complex and strategic, making it imperative for the country to be technically very sound and updated so that enemies along the borders could not dent the interests of the people as presently there is stand-off between India-Dragon country in eastern Ladakh sector and Pakistan being constant threat never misses a chance to harm India by its nefarious designs along the borders either LOC or LAC. The latest threat which has been hovering over India at the borders is of drones as these unmanned flying objects are being extensively used by both China and Pakistan for various illegal activities like the recce of borders, smuggling of arms and ammunition, and narcotics, and even for carrying out terror attacks. Earlier, the enemy nations have the facility to monitor things on ground by satellites only but with the advent of these Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) things have become pernicious as twins drones from Pakistan have bombed Jammu Airforce Station in June last year making it very necessary for the country to take refuge in the technology to counter such threats as spotting of Pakistani and Chinese drones along borders has become a new norm these days. In this context, the reports regarding fortification of LOC and LAC are quite promising because army has deployed some 140 artificial intelligence-based surveillance systems to get live feed of the ground situation along the 749-km-long Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan and 3,448-km-long Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. Reportedly, the systems include high-resolution cameras, sensors, UAV feed and radar feed, which are collated and applied through artificial intelligence to arrive at possible scenarios. The aforesaid systems will enable detection of intrusions at borders and classification of targets. The new technology will considerably reduce the requirement of manual monitoring, which was the need of time. The army has been collaborating with academia and Indian industry, as also the DRDO for such projects. It is likely that the aforesaid systems will help in overcoming the threat and will make borders more safe and secure, which is required at the moment to stop both Pakistan and China from indulging in anti-India activities.
