TAKE CUE
The cell phone snatching has become one of the common crimes and police finds it difficult to crack the rising number of cases with little or no clues available about those involved in these crimes in the UT of J&K because youths having no criminal records are generally involved in this petty crime which is on rise these days. Whatever is the modus operandi of the criminals, the police is always a step ahead in cracking the cases and brought to justice all those involved in criminal activities. In the aforesaid cases also police will take all the necessary steps to ensure that the people involved in such crimes are taken to task. In this context, Ludhiana’s Commissioner of Police has come up with a practical solution by directing all the shopkeepers to maintain the record of sellers and buyers of the second hand cell phones as this could prove out to be a great help in tightening noose around the cell phone snatchers. The JKP should also take a cue from this and emulate the process to nab the culprits in the UT. It is pertinent to mention that Punjab’s business city’s Commissioner of police had ordered shop owners to keep record of sellers and buyers of all second-hand mobile phones. He maintained that snatchers involved in the crime sell their mobile phones to shop owners across the city, and in such conditions, police face problems in solving these cases. It has been ensured that the shopkeepers will maintain a register in which they will maintain records of people selling second-hand mobile phones as well as buyers of used phones. The police has also warned of strict action against those disobeying this order as the same can be of great help for the police to nab the culprits who had wreaked havoc through such criminal activities. It is advisable that the similar initiative be taken in J&K also because the same will not only help in curbing the cell phone snatching menace but will also create a database which can be of much use for the police. The success of this effort however depends on the establishments dealing with the second hand mobiles therefore taking them into confidence is vital for the success of this initiative.
