ITBP jawan dies, 3 injured in fratricide firing at Udhampur

Jammu, July 16:  One jawan of Indo-Tibetian Border Police (ITBP) died and three sustained injuries in an incident of fratricide on Saturday in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Police sources added that ITBP troops allegedly scuffled with each other over an issue inside the camp.

“At around 1545 hrs, one Constable stationed in Udhampur for Amarnath Yatra duties and presently in building of Community Hall near Devika, Shiv Nagar, opened fire from his service rifle and injured three other Jawans,” sources added.

They said the jawan later shot himself with his service rifle.

The deceased Constable was identified as Bhupendra Singh and the injured were Dale Ram, Akhlak Malik and Gore Rajnikant Malik.

A case has been registered and investigation started, police added.

On Friday, an Army jawan also fired at his colleagues and later shot himself with service rifle in Surankote area of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
