NOW MONKEYPOX SCARE
It is unfortunate that the people across the country are still working to fight COVID-19 with gigantic vaccination programmes and maintaining disease protocols including face mask usage and social distancing, there comes another trouble known as Monkeypox, which has also spread in many countries and a case is also reported in India’s Kerala State. The maiden case of Monkeypox which was confirmed in Kerala is of a 35-year-old man who came from UAE a few days ago. As the disease has entered the country there is dire need that the government should start a special awareness campaign to stop its further transmission. As far as the government is concerned, it has started taking initiatives to tackle the disease in case the situation turns precarious. Starting with a needful effort, the centre has directed states and union territories to be vigilant on Monkeypox and asked all of them to establish exclusive hospitals for the treatment of its victims. The comprehensive plan which has been advised by the centre has sought separate hospitals, isolation for patients and other necessary precautions to keep the disease at bay. Reporetdly, the presence of the Monkeypox epidemic has been seen in more than 50 countries and so far one person has died due to this. The most vulnerable are Europe and America, where the percentage of Monkeypox cases are 86 percent and 11 percent respectively. With the detection of the case in India, the need to remain on toes has evolved and therefore all the concerned healthcare institutions should be mobilized to counter any kind of exigency in near future. It is pertinent to mention that the World Health Organization has expressed the possibility of spread of this epidemic globally and has described it as a medium-level crisis. Awareness about the disease is the key to combat it effectively therefore the government should come up with a plan as soon as possible because no one can predict how the disease will behave in the coming time. It is always advisable to get ready beforehand as the famous proverb says ‘prevention is better than cure’. Therefore preparations should be made to deal with Monkeypox in advance. People on the other hand should report any case of similar nature to the nearest healthcare facility immediately and the suspected patient should be kept in isolation. Covid-19 precautions can be of great help in dealing with this disease also.
