GOVT SHOULD DO NEEDFUL
The report that the Border Security Force is working to develop counter-drone and anti-tunnel technologies to effectively check cross-border drugs and arms smuggling and terrorist infiltration bids along the India-Pakistan border is a good development as the menace of drones and tunnels having openings on the other side of the border need to be tackled effectively as soon as possible because the same are proving to be detrimental for the country. It is pertinent to mention that the BSF has shot down a total of 7 drones over the last six months and has detected three underground tunnels along the Pakistan border since January, 2021.
There is no doubt that BSF personnel are keeping a strict vigil on cross-border drone activities through which drugs and arms are smuggled and underground tunnels which are used for infiltration by terrorists but evolving mechanism using latest technology can be of great use in making surveillance failsafe. Although it has been averred that BSF is also developing effective technologies to check drones and underground tunnels, the point is that why not the government is giving this responsibility to agencies doing defence research and development because BSF’s expertise is in making defence line robust which the force is doing with extreme precision. It would be much better that BSF should tie up with the concerned government research agencies and provide the requirement to develop the technology to counter drone menace and the tunnels which the rogue nation Pakistan often construct to carry out anti-India operations. The main aim of the BSF should be to keep an eagle eye view along the borders of the country and make precise use of the technology which they have acquired for the purpose. There is no doubt that security forces of the country are doing their best to keep the borders including IB, LoC and LAC safe and that is the reason that the countrymen whether living in J&K, Arunachal or Kanyakumari feel protected and secure. This confidence of the people of the country has been attained due to selfless service of the security personnel whether they are from BSF, army or other CAPFs. The government should take cognizance of the matter and provide latest technology to security forces to combat the threat of drones which is looming large so that security forces could focus on the duty for which they have been constituted.
