TIME SLIPPING OUT OF HANDS
It seems that whatever has been done so far to curb the targeted killings in Valley has proved ineffective as the terrorists have continued to unleashed the reign of terror with three attacks in three consecutive days leading to deaths of two and seriously wounding the third one. The claims made by the government that they have eliminated those behind the targeted killings might have been true but the situation currently is going contrary as every day soft targets especially belonging to minority communities and those belonging to outside states are facing the brunt thus calling for immediate necessary steps to end this vicious cycle of violence in Valley. After targeting a lady teacher hailing from Samba District a day before yesterday, the terrorists fired upon one civilian Farooq Ahmad Sheikh in Village Chidren in Keegam area of Shopian. He got an injury in leg and was shifted to hospital. His condition is stated to be stable but the attack shows that no area is currently safe in the Valley. Not the day has passed and another non-local, a bank manager, originally from Rajasthan, was shot dead by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam in the third targeted attack in the Valley in three days. Reports averred that an employee of the Ellaqui Dehati Bank, was shot inside the bank premises, raising a big question mark on the fact that banks do have their own security guards. He succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital. A resident of Hanumangarh in Rajasthan, the aforesaid bank manager became the next target of the terrorists in Valley with government at the moment seems to be helpless in putting an end to this vicious cycle of death and destruction. No doubt that government is aware of the criticality of the situation and the Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high-level meeting on June 3 to discuss security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the second such exercise in less than a fortnight but the thing is that what can be done to stop the killings as terrorist come out from nowhere and hit their targets with no scope for the security forces to protect the people as it is not possible to provide a body guard to every single person in Valley. The situation is really precarious and many factors need to be looked into before coming out with a placebo to end the mad violence as the annual Amarnath Yatra is also on cards and the government cannot take any risk whatsoever as time is moving fast.
