A soldier was detained at the Srinagar International Airport on Monday. In fact, the jawan was going to his home on leave, when the security personnel checked his luggage on reaching the airport, a hand grenade was recovered from his luggage. Police has taken him into custody. How this grenade came in his luggage is being questioned. The arrested army personnel are posted in 42RR Battalion.
Confirming the matter, the police said that the army jawan was apprehended around 09.30 am during baggage screening at the drop gate at the airport. He had hidden this grenade in his bag. He was leaving for Chinaini from Srinagar. Military jawan Balaji Sampath son Sampath is a resident of KK Nagar Thorapady, Vellore Tamil Nadu. During the screening at the drop gate of Srinagar International Airport, a HE (high explosive) grenade was recovered from the jawan’s luggage. The police immediately took the jawan into their custody. The jawan was later taken to the police post Humhama, where he is being questioned.
