On Wednesday, the Central Investigation Agency (CBI) started a probe into allegations of bribery offered by former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik. Malik said he was offered a bribe to clear two files while in office. On March 25, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had said that the CBI had been given consent to investigate Malik’s allegations and clarify everything.
Officials said Malik is also likely to be questioned during the probe as he had signed the file before levelling the allegations. Malik, the last governor of Jammu and Kashmir before bifurcating the erstwhile state into two union territories in August 2019, claimed in October last year that he had to approve a file belonging during his tenure to Ambani and another 300. A bribe of Rs.
Malik, currently the governor of Meghalaya, had said that he had scrapped the deals. Later, during the meeting, the prime minister supported his decision, saying that he did not need to compromise on corruption. Officials said that the CBI has taken over the case investigation and has started probing the allegations.
In his allegation last year, Malik had said that he was offered a bribe of Rs 150 crore to clear two files, one related to Ambani and the other of the previous Mehbooba Mufti-led (PDP-BJP alliance) was given to a former minister in the government. The minister was said to be very close to the PM.
