LISTEN TO PM’S CALL
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tweet on conservation of water on the World Water Day holds much significance because despite having plenty of clean water sources and people’s undaunted faith in keeping all of them clean as country’s culture bats for considering these sources as sacred, there are cities which are facing acute water dearth thus making it necessary to listen to PM’s call without fail. Using water judicially has become imperative as slowly but consistently water scarcity is becoming a major problem in the urban hamlets and if measures are not taken soon things can take a dangerous turn because for humans and all other living beings–Water Is Life. As PM Modi has observed that water conservation has become a mass movement over the last few years in India, there is still hope that India will be the last country to face water crisis as people here worship rivers, mountains and other natural resources although industrial pollution and the one emanating from country’s big urban centres is causing harm to water resources thus making it necessary for the government and the people to minimize this at any cost. There is no doubt that the government has remained on forefront by undertaking numerous measures like the Jal Jeevan Mission to ensure water conservation and access to clean drinking water for all citizens but until every single person in the country will not be sensitized on the issue the threat of water scarcity will loom large. As far as Jammu is concerned people here are very traditional and consider the main river Tawi as Goddess. They have given two more names to this river, Suryaputri and Tawishi, and there are groups of people who organize Aarti (Prayers) on its Ghats. This belief has nothing to do with science but it has much relevance in context with spirituality and if all the people of Jammu will start considering this river to be sacred then the issue of polluting this water source will automatically be resolved and the same is true for all the rivers of the country. This is the greatness of Indian beliefs and culture that natural resources lasted so long without any degradation and to rejuvenate these natural resources once again people should turn towards religious beliefs and ethos as these can play a significant role in water conservation.
