Dr. Drakhshan Andrabi has been unanimously elected to the post of Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board. This is the first time in the last 70 years that a woman has held the chair of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board. Dr. Drakhshan Andrabi, senior journalists Sohail Kazmi, Dr. Ghulam Nabi Haleem, Syed Mohammad Hussain and Nawabdin were appointed members of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board by the Minority Affairs Department of the Center last week.
The first meeting of the members of the Waqf Board was held at Haj House. In this, the chairman was elected for the smooth running of the business of the board. All the members unanimously elected Drakhshan Andrabi as the Chairman. Expressing gratitude to all the members for being elected as the Chairman, Andrabi said that her aim will not only be to protect and build Muslim shrines, but she will also work for setting up schools, universities, hospitals. She said that the way the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has created educational institutions and super specialty hospitals like Narayana Hospital, the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board will also work in the same way for the betterment of the people.
