Advisor Farooq Khan visits B’la; inaugurates “Inclusive Sports Event” for Specially Abled Persons
BARAMULLA, OCTOBER 12: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Ahmad Khan, today visited Baramulla district and inaugurated “Inclusive Sports Event” organised for specially abled persons at Showkat Ali Stadium.
The event was organised by Hope Disability Centre in collaboration with Youth Services and Sports Baramulla wherein an array of sports activities were conducted. The theme of the event was “Know Me For My Abilities, Not My Disability”.
The inaugural cricket match was played between Kupwara lines and Baramulla Tigers which was won by Baramulla Tigers by 5 runs.
Advisor, while speaking on the occasion, complimented the organizers for holding such a unique event terming it a step forward towards empowering speciality abled persons. He said that sports play an important role in psychological and social development and there is a dire need to provide appropriate platform to youth enabling them exhibit their sports talent.
Reiterating administration’s commitment of empowering this vital section of society, Advisor said that various measures are being taken up to provide them with proper avenues so that they became able enough to compete at national and international level. He also said that specially abled persons constitute an inalienable part of our society.
Meanwhile, Advisor flagged off a wheel chair race in which several specially abled sports enthusiasts participated. He also participated in a carrom match that was organized as part of the programme.
Director General Youth Services and Sports, Gazzanfar Ali, ADDC Baramulla, Aijaz Abdullah Saraaf, SSP Rayees Mohammad Bhat, Joint Director, Planning M Yousuf Rather and other concerned functionaries were present on the occasion.
