SRINAGAR: A day after it was reported that the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s CID wing has issued instructions to deny security clearance for passport and other government services required by those persons who were once involved in stone-pelting or subversive activities in the union territory, former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti has lashed out at the authorities. The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party president described the move as a double standard and part of a dirty game, while comparing the matter with that of a cop who was caught with terrorists. “Innocent Kashmiris arrested under anti terror laws rot in jails for years. For them the trial becomes the punishment. But GOI doesn’t want an enquiry against a cop caught red handed with terrorists. Is it because he colluded with the system to orchestrate certain dodgy incidents? “Kashmiris are considered guilty until proven innocent.Whether for governments job or even a passport they are subjected to the worst kind of scrutiny. But when a policeman is known to have facilitated terrorists he is let off the hook. The double standards & dirty games is obvious (sic),” Mehbooba tweeted on Monday. The order to deny security clearance was issued on Saturday by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), CID, Special Branch (SB), Kashmir. The order calls upon all field units to examine carefully the involvement of a person seeking such clearance in law and order, stone-pelting cases, and other crimes prejudicial to the security of the UT. Such verification has to be done in security clearance sought for passport, service and any other verification in relation to government schemes. “The same must be corroborated from the local police station records,” the order read. “Any subject found involved in any such cases must be denied the security clearance,” it added.
