ISM Directorate starts Yoga Week celebration ahead of International Day of Yoga-2021
JAMMU JUNE 15: Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine (AYUSH) J&K today kick started week long celebrations- Yoga Saptaha to mark the celebration of 7th International Day of Yoga.
As per the guidelines of Ministry of AYUSH and current year theme “ Be with Yoga, Be at Home”, most of the activities are being organized from various virtual platforms.
In this regard, the Directorate of AYUSH J&K organized an impressive program on the virtual platforms, wherein Director Indian Systems of Medicine, Dr. Mohan Singh in presence of Assistant Director ISM Dr. Rakesh Kumar Raina, Medical Superintendent Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu Dr. Vandana Dogra, District Nodal Officer ISM, Samba Dr. Vikram Jamwal and various officers/ officials of the department, took Yoga Shapath- (pledge) to include Yoga in their daily lives and promote the same among their families and friends.
After pledge taking ceremony, Director AYUSH J&K, Dr. Mohan Singh declared various competitive activities open for participation, which are being organized by the department to encourage citizens of Jammu and Kashmir for exploring the ancient wisdom of Yoga. In his address to Officers and officials of the ISM (AYUSH) department, he emphasized that Directorate is committed to take Yoga upto the grass root level and urged all the stakeholders to participate in this week long celebration with full zest and fervor. He also urged all the employees to take the message of “KARO YOG RAHO NIROG” to every household and every member of the community.
It is pertinent to mention that, Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine is organizing various activities like essay competition, quiz competition, jingle competition, slogan competition etc. through virtual platforms. For disseminating right information about YOGA to public, Directorate of ISM (AYUSH) is also organizing series of webinars- Yoga Charcha involving experts of AYUSH and by collaborating with experts from other departments like NHM, ICDS, Youth services and sports, Directorates of School Education, Higher education, Directorates of Health Services Jammu and Kashmir and NGOs. In this series, Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine organized a webinar in which Prof. and Ex-Head of the Department Transfusion medicine and a prominent Yoga enthusiast, Dr. T.R. Raina was invited as speaker. Dr. T.R. Raina gave a detailed presentation on the topic “ Holistic Health and Science of Stress through Yoga” in which he emphasized over the evidence based applications of Yogic techniques for health promotion, stress mitigation, disease prevention and management. He also highlighted that Yoga is secular and beyond any religion therefore everyone should adopt Yogic techniques with open heart and mind. He also urged the doctors and medical officials to prescribe Yogic techniques as an adjuvant therapy to the conventional approaches for better health outcomes.
Participants of the webinar included officers and officials of the Department of Indian systems of medicine, students of AYUSH, teachers and officials of the education department. Dr. Raina appreciated this first of its kind initiative by Director Indian Systems of Medicine and expressed that these cross talks between traditional and conventional medical systems are absolute need of the time.
