By accusing BJP of creating bogus narrative on J&K’s constitutional rights Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, brother of the leader of Gupkar Gang Dr Farooq Abdullah, additional General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC), the NC is trying to side track and divert public attention from the major issue of corruption charges against the Abdullahs stated Brig Veteran Anil Gupta, Spokesperson of BJP in a press release issued here today. In the usual denial mode, the Gupkar Gang is calling it a political vendetta and questioning the timing of making their name public linking it to the ongoing DDC elections. However, the people are in no mood this time to get carried away by their false and unjustified pleas asserted Brig Gupta.
After the involvement of Dr Farooq Abdullah in the JKCA scam, his name has now surfaced in the misuse of his official position in 1998 wherein he illegally grabbed 7 kanal of forest land in Bhatindi, near Jammu city to build a palatial house thereon. In fact, after the list of beneficiaries under the Roshni scam was made public, there was huge public outcry in Jammu asking the authorities to clarify the ownership of land in Bhatindi on which the palatial residence of Abdullahs and his friends were built. Dr Farooq Abdullah and his colleagues are trying to mislead the public by linking this loot of government land with Roshni Scam and claiming that Dr Farooq is not a beneficiary of Roshni scheme.
Very cleverly the real issue is being hidden from the public. The names declassified by the government in the list in which Farooq and Omar Abdullah and few other names appear is explicitly titled as “Other than Roshni- Encroached State Land but not shown in revenue records”. Dr Abdullah surely realises that it is a much graver crime than being a Roshni allottee since it is a case of not just encroachment but also concealing it by not showing in revenue records.
Not only that Farooq used his influence to enable some of his friends and colleagues to encroach nearby land and build houses that making it an exclusive residential area like the Gupkar Road in Srinagar. That is why all – out effort by the Gupkar Gang to side track the real issue stated Brig Gupta.
Commenting on the claim of Mustafa Kamal that BJP narrative of 370 and 35A were impeding the growth and development of J&K was false while quoting the Niti Ayog reports that as per HDI indices J&K was much better than many other states, Brig Gupta accused him of motivated presentation of facts. “Mustafa Kamal very well knows from where J&K got funds to spend.
J&K by itself does not generate even 30% of its annual revenue and is dependent on the Centre for remainder 70% as grant-in-aid. Most of the development projects in J&K were 100% funded by central government and the state is trying to take the credit for the same. J&K’s share of allocation of central funds is highest in the country on per capita basis much to the annoyance of other needy states,” stated Brig Gupta.
Amplifying further Brig Gupta said, “Data shows that despite J&K receiving 10 percent of tax payers’ money for one percent of India’s population in the last 70 years under 370, its economy has remained fragile.” Hence by misrepresenting the facts, NC is trying to accuse BJP of creating a bogus narrative rued Brig Gupta.
