Drug peddler allegedly commits suicide in police custody in Sopore

A 28-year-old drug peddler allegedly committed suicide at a police station in the apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, official sources said on Thursday.

They said a youth, identified as Zamrood Ahmad Gojri, was arrested by police alongwith 200 capsules of Spasmoprovian last week in Sopore.

“The accused was immediately taken into custody,” they said, adding a case was registered and Gojri was produced before judicial magistrate.They said the accused was sent back into police custody till November 15, 2020. However, they said the accused was found hanging inside the lock-up in the police station on Wednesday night. “Gojri was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, they said.

They said police has registered a case and initiated investigation into the incident. “After completing all the legal and medical formalities, the body of the deceased would be handed over to his relatives for last rites,” they added.
