Only stranded vehicles to be allowed on Saturday on Sgr-Jammu highway

As the Srinagar-Jammu national highway remained closed on Friday due to landslides, only stranded vehicles would be allowed on Saturday subject to road and weather condition, a traffic police official said this evening.

He said on Friday traffic movement on the highway remained suspended due to landslides and shooting stone, triggered by rain at Penthyal.

He said on Saturday subject to fair weather and better condition of road, only stranded vehicles will be allowed towards Srinagar. No vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction, he said.

He said the historic 86-km-long Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region  was open. However, only vehicles loaded with fresh fruits would be allowed from Herpora Shopian towards other side of the Pir-ki-Gali. Vehicles had to ply between 1100 hrs to 1600 hrs. No vehicle will be allowed after cut off time, he said.

However, no passenger vehicle or pedestrian will be allowed on the Mughal road, he said.

He said subject to fair weather vehicles carrying essentials will be ply from Srinagar to Leh tomorrow.

However, travelers are requested to contact Traffic Control Unit (TCU) before starting journey, he said.
