The authorities on Thursday barred the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders to leave their residences in Kashmir to attend the party’s first meeting at its headquarters in Srinagar since August 5 last year.
Senior PDP leader and former minister Naeem Akhtar wrote on his twitter handle; “Despite being free on paper and in govt submissions in HC and SC, PDP Leadership continues to be under illegal detention, without any official orders. Video from today – I wasn’t allowed to attend the PDP meeting nor were any of my colleagues.”
“Shameful that J&K admin along with police physically prevented PDP leaders from leaving their homes in Srinagar today. They shamelessly lie to courts that these people are free to move & then have the audacity to detain them illegally at home,” tweeted Iltija Mufti from her mother’s twitter handle.
Earlier, the party had called a meeting of its office-bearers and senior leaders at its headquarters in Srinagar on Thursday.
“PDP general secretary Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura has called an important meeting of the senior party leadership and functionaries at PDP headquarters in Srinagar on September 3 at 11 a.m.,” PDP spokesman Suhail Bukhari had said in a statement.
He had said the leadership will have threadbare discussion on the prevailing political situation in Jammu and Kashmir and general party affairs.
The party had called a meeting last week but postponed it claiming that the authorities had refused to allow leaders to move of their residences to attend it.
