Srinagar, Aug 29 (UNI) Life is limping back to normal on Saturday after authorities lifted restrictions imposed early Friday morning to prevent Muharram procession in summer capital, Srinagar, where Tazia processions are banned since eruption of militancy in early 90s.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, K Pole on Thursday evening reiterated that strict restrictions will continue on all religious processions and gatherings in all districts of the Kashmir valley in view of COVID-19 pandemic.
Restrictions were imposed early Friday morning to prevent Tazia procession on 8th day of Muharram month of Islamic Calendar from Guru Bazar under police station Shaheed Gunj in the old city to Imambara Dalgate through historic Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city and Moulana Azad road. No procession was allowed yesterday due to restrictions. However, dozens of mourners were arrested in the city after they tried move towards Dalgate Imambara.
Today the restrictions have been lifted only to be imposed again on Sunday, 10th day of Muharram when Grandson of Prophet Muhammad was martyred at Karbala more than 1400 years ago. The mourners will again try to take out Tazia procession from Abi Guzar in the civil lines to Imambara in the down town. Similar procession was being taken out from Zadibal to Hassanabad in the down town. However, the processions are banned since early 90s when militancy erupted in the valley.
All road blocks have been removed on Saturday morning in Srinagar, where shops and business establishments reopened as per guidelines issued by the administration. Transport was also plying on all routes.
