The Jammu police on Thursday arrested two persons on the charges of trafficking a minor from West Bengal to Jammu.
As per the details, the Police has arrested two accused namely Savita Mali, resident of West Bengal and Rajesh Dogra of Jammu in the case filed by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Jammu in February 2020 under sections 75/79 of The Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children Act 2015).
Giving details of the case, the Chairperson, CWC Jammu, Shalini Sharma said that in February 2020, a minor was handed over to them by police who was noticed by a police party at a naka in Jhajjar Kotli and travelling alone to Kashmir. Later after verifying the details of the minor, it was revealed that she hails from West Bengal.
On the statement of the said minor girl, a FIR was registered under relevant sections of The Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children Act 2015). Medical examination and age determination test of the minor was also done and the statement was also recorded in the court, she said.
She further said that during the investigation, section 363/370 of IPC were also included and it was revealed that the minor was brought by Shanti Mali to Jammu without informing her parents in 2018 and in connivance with Rajesh Dogra who is an agent in Jammu employed the girl as a maid in a house in Nanak Nagar where she remained for two years and all her accumulated earnings were swindled by the accuseds.Further, it is given that instead of sending the minor back to her home in West Bengal they tried to shift her to Kashmir by practicing fraud and committed offence of trafficking of minor.
After thorough investigations in the case, the Jammu Police today arrested both the accused for illegally bringing the minor from West Bengal and also for exploiting her financially.
Shalini Sharma thanked Jammu Police especially SSP Jammu Shridhar Patil for his support in this case and nabbing the accused for committing the crime.
Meanwhile, the team of CWC Jammu tried to get details of the parents of the minor and contacted the CWC of the concerned area the minor belongs to. After the verifying the details of the parents, it was declared that they are incapacitated to take care of their child, so it is decided that the minor should be placed in a Government run institution after she is handed over to the officials of Government of West Bengal.
Presently, the team of CWC Jammu is taking care of the minor who is staying in a protection home in Jammu where she is also given skill training to make her self-supporting.
