Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh sanctioned Rs 1.20 crore special welfare relief for the Next of Kin (NoK) of Jammu and Kashmir police personnel who died in harness, a police spokesman said on Monday afternoon.
DGP also sanctioned special relief of Rs 10 lakh for NoKs of Special Police Officers (SPOs), he said.
Spokesman said continuing with its endeavor to provide financial assistance to the families of the Police personnel who have passed away in harness, Mr Singh has sanctioned Rs 1.20 crore as Special Welfare Relief in favour of dependents and legal heirs of six such deceased Police personnel.
The DGP also sanctioned special relief in favour of NOKs of two SPOs who died during the course of their engagement.
The special welfare relief of Rs 20 lakh each has been sanctioned in favour of dependents and legal heirs of deceased Police personnel, Inspector Vinay Kumar Parihar, ASI Ghulam Nabi, HCs Ghulam Mohammed, Rangeel Singh, SgCt Ajay Kumar and Follower Mohammad Jamal who expired during service due to health related issues.
The financial assistance in favour of these families has been sanctioned out of Contributory Welfare Fund. Out of these Rs one lakh each was already paid to the families for performing the last rites as immediate relief by the concerned units.
The DGP has also sanctioned Rs 10 lakh special relief in favour of NOKs of deceased SPO Shanaza Begum and (Village Deence
Committee (VDC) member Romesh Chander, who died during the course of their engagement.
Pertinent to mention that Police headquarters is running various scheme for the welfare of its personnel and their families. There are also schemes for the wards of Police personnel and SPOs. Besides, there are schemes for the NoKs of martyrs, their wards as also for the retired Police personnel and their spouses.
