Anantnag, Aug 21 (UNI) Strict restrictions have been re-imposed in this south Kashmir district for three days from Friday in view of surge in COVID-19 positive cases during the past few days.
Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, Kuldeep Krishan Sidha in an order said that restrictions will remain imposed on August 21 to 23 in the entire district.
However, local residents questioning re-imposition of the restrictions said that there was not much change in the COVID-19 positive cases since the fresh relaxation was announced from August 16.
According to official records Anantnag recorded 41 new positive cases on Thursday while on August 19 the number of positive cases was 48, August 18 it was 42 cases. The number of positive cases on August 17 was 43 while it was just 23 cases.
He said a series of orders and communication have been issued by his office under the provisions of Epidemic disease Act 1987 and Disaster Management Act 2005 and the CrPC 144 to contain and check spread of the spread of COVID-19 in the district.
Whereas, a surge in the positive cases has been observed over the over the last few days and in order to contain the infection it has become necessary to reimpose the restrictions, Mr Sidha said.
Therefore, in exercise of powers conferred under Section 144 CRPC and Section 34 Disaster Management Act, restrictions have been re-imposed which shall be implemented in letter and spirit for three days from Friday, the order said.
All the shops and business establishments shall remain closed and transport suspended during these days. The order asked Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag, to ensure deployment of security personnel at all prominent nakas to ensure restriction of movement passenger vehicles and seize any vehicle found plying in violation of the order.
The concerned Tehsildars have been directed to deploy Duty Magistrate within their respective jurisdictions to ensure people wear masks and keep physical distance.
Meanwhile, large number of security forces and police personnel were deployed in the district, particularly in the main business hubs, where shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads. However, some private vehicles were seen plying on few routes.
