Swachh Survekshan 2020 results announced, Indore once again retains top spot

Indore: Indore is India’s cleanest city in Swachh Survekshan 2020, the fifth edition of the annual cleanliness survey of the country
The city has bagged the spot fourth time in a row. Gujarat’s Surat on second spot and Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai on third.In the category of population of less than 1 lakh, Maharashtra’s Karad bagged the first position, followed by state’s Saswad and Lonavala.
Best performing states in terms of overall performance were divided in two categories- states with over 100 Urban Local Bodies (ULB) and states with less than 100 ULBs. In the first category, Chhattisgarh bagged the award for the second time and Jharkhand won the award in the second category.India’s Cleanest Cantonment Board award was bagged by Jalandhar cantonment from Punjab and Best Ganga Town award was given to Varanasi.Best city in terms of maximum citizen’s participation award in the category of population of over 1 lakh has been given to Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur. In the same category for cities with population less that 1 lakh, the award was bagged by Uttarakhand’s Nandapra yag.
Cleanest city with over 40 lakh population award was won by Ahmedabad and Vijayawada won in the category of city with population between 10 lakh to 40 lakh. Fastest mover big city award was won by Rajasthan’s Jodhpur. Gujarat’s Rajkot won the best self sustainable city award. In the category of 3 to 10 lakh population, cleanest city award went to Karnataka’s Mysuru.
Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad won fastest mover city in 3 lakh to 10 lakh population category. In the same population category, Pilai of Chattisgarh won the best self sustainable city award.Cleanest small city award in 1 lakh to 3 lakh population category went to Chattisgarh’s Ambikapur.
Burhanpur of Madhya Pradesh won the award for fastest mover small city.Cleanest capital city award was won by New Delhi’s New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC).
Fastest mover capital city award went to Lucknow. Bhopal bagged the award for best self sustainable capital city.
A total of 129 top performing cities and states were awarded by Minister of Civil Aviation of India Hardeep Singh Puri in the virtual programme called ‘Swachh Mahotsav’. This programme was organised by the ministry of housing and urban affairs. PM?Modi, who was originally supposed to announce the results, could not attend the event.
Mysuru had won the award for the cleanest city of India in the first edition of the survey, while Indore has retained the top position for three consecutive years (2017,2018, 2019).
