With the death of four more positive patients, the death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 270 in Jammu and Kashmir, where lockdown and other measures have failed to control the spread of virus as the number of such patients witness spike with every passing day.
Official sources said two patients have succumbed to virus in S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIM) and one each in SMHS and Chest Disease Hospital (CDH), Srinagar since Tuesday night.
An official spokesman said that 608 new positive cases of novel Corona virus (COVID-19), 106 from Jammu division and 502 from Kashmir division, have been reported on Tuesday thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 15258. He said out of 15258 positive cases, 6540 are Active Positive, 8455 have recovered.
However, he said 181 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 36 from Jammu Division and 145 from Kashmir Division yesterday.
He said till last night 336315 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for observation which included 38016 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 11 in Hospital Quarantine, 6540 in hospital isolation and 42779 under home surveillance. Besides, 248706 persons have completed their surveillance period.
